Renee Possum

As an artist, Possum Rose draws inspiration from the natural world. The patterns, colours, and raw beauty of Mother Earth shape her creative practice and continue to inspire her. Her artistic journey is deeply connected to Yamatji Country, the traditional lands of her Yamatji people across Western Australia’s Midwest, Murchison, and Gascoyne regions.

Her grandmothers, proud Nanda women, were taken from their families as part of the Stolen Generation. Through her art, Possum Rose expresses both the pain and resilience of her people. Her work reflects what has been lost, while also honouring the strength that continues to live on. Using colour, texture, and pattern, she captures the beauty of the land and celebrates the enduring spirit of her Nanda mob and the ongoing cultural practices of her ancestors, the traditional owners of Country.
